
Taragarh Palace Hotel, Himachal Pradesh
Fifteen acres of forested land surrounded by tea gardens houses one
of the most beautiful hotels of the state of Himachal Pradesh,
Taragarh Palace hotel. A heritage hotel, it cradles beautifully in the
Kangra valley in the foot of Dhauladhar Mountains. The snow capped
peaks of Dhauladhar make an impressive picture with the red roofed
palace in the foreground. At 1000 metres above the sea level, it looks
like a lone shining pint amdist the green belt of forests.
Taragarh Palace, was formerly the summer retreat of the King of
Bahawalpur, who had built it in 1931 as his summer retreat. It was a
European stylish structure then with beautiful features like a glass
pavilion and a mosque. He had then named it Alhilal, meaning cresent
moon. The palace was later brought by the the royal family of Jammu
and Kashmir and Maharani Tara Devi, a dowager resided here for several
years. The palace was named after her and a few years ago it was
turned into a heritage hotel. The hotel is run by the royal family.
A beautiful red tiled colonial bunglow, it looks very inviting and
just the kind of place that offers you a taste of royal splendour. The
hotel is also very aptly located with just 75 minute drive from
Dharamshala airport.
A Royal Setting
The mood is set for a royal stay in the hills as soon as you enter
the palace. Every where you set your eyes, you will feel as if the
time has stood stil here since the colonial era. The times of royalty
might have ended but as you pass through the dimly lit corridors of
Taragarh Palace, you are introduced to the splendour of royal times
and families of India. Impressive heavy wood period furniture, tiger
skins adorning the walls, elegant teak panelled dining hall, are just
a few of the splendid accomplishments in the hotel. Old photographs
and portraits emphasize the princely palace.

all the modern amenities you could ask for. The hotel has 16 rooms in
all, four single, eight double and four deluxe rooms. The rooms are
truly comfortable and are adorned with tasteful furniture. The well
appointed rooms with bathrooms have original European fittings.
