Chandigarh - The Capital City

Designed and planned by a single architect Le Corbusier, Chandigarh is the capital of both Punjab and Haryana. Lying in the lap of Shivalik Hills, Chandigarh is special with the peeping of the glorious mountain into its day to day life. The modern city, Chandigarh boasts of a number of well maintained gardens including the famous Rose Garden and Rock Garden which are simply a treat to the eyes. Legendary City of Kurukshetra

Sultanpur Bird Sanctuary

Founded by Dr. Salim Ali, Sultanpur Bird Sanctuary is nothing but a haven for the domestic as well as migratory birds. The bird lovers are not behind, they flock here in abundance every year from October to March to have a glimpse of the wonderland ruled by coloured feathers and euphoric chirpings. Some of the birds that may come across your binocular sight are demoiselle cranes, ruddy shelducks, pelicans, flamingos, shovelers and many more.

Culture, Colour and Celebration

The tradition of art and craft, music, dance and folklore of Haryana have all cropped from the festivity of harvesting, as Haryana is primarily an agriculture oriented state. The happiness of celebrations have mingled with the colours of dazzling attires when beautiful women shake their body with the beats of dholak in Phag, Dhamal or Ratvai. The best time to enjoy these traditional dances is the occasion of Surajkund Craft Mela which is celebrated with much enthusiasm and ebullience every year. The highlight of the fair is to promote the finest hand loom and handicraft items where a number artisans come up with their stalls. Summer celebrates the taste of mango in the Mango Mela held at Yadavindra Gardens, Pinjore.

Adventurous Haryana

The Haryana Government has come up with a number of adventure sport options to choose from. So get ready to sweat yourself till you drop. The enthralling ride in the air under para sailing and para gliding may stop your breathe before landing on the land. Pinjore Aviation Club has been arranging regular para sailing rides for years. You may also take up adventurous rock climbing at Damdama which is sure to be an unforgettable experience in your life. A delightful canoing or kayaking in the river Yamuna from Panota Sahib to Hathnikund arranged for both the amateurs and experienced is nothing but an ultimate pleasure.

Sohna Rejuvenates

Atop the Aravalli Hills, there lies the beautiful holiday destination Sohna, which means gold in Hindi. The hot water pool and sulphur springs of Sohna Hills are medicinal in nature and gives a rejuvenating experience while you take a dip into it. The panoramic view of the Aravalli Hills is the added attraction that binds you with the serene ambience of the place. By Air

Chandigarh has a domestic airport located nearly 12 kilometers from the city centre. Jet Airways, Air Deccan and Indian Airlines operate regular flights from Chandigarh to New Delhi Jammu, Srinagar, Leh and Mumbai. Pre-paid taxi and luxury buses are available just outside the airport for onward tour.

By Rail

Chandigarh, the terminus of Northern Railway, is connected with Mumbai, Delhi, Kalka, Howrah and other major cities with super fast and luxurious trains. Rajdhani Express daily runs from Chandigarh to Delhi.

By Road

Haryana is well connected with the other parts of the country where Chandigarh being the hub of communication with Amritsar- 240 km, Dehradhun- 230 km, Delhi- 248 km, Shimla- 117 km, Kulu- 279 km, Bhakra- 116 km, Kasauli- 77 km, Jammu- 380 km. The Inter State Bus Terminus (ISBT), located in Sector-17 has regular bus services to the most major cities of Punjab, Himachal Pradesh, Haryana, Uttaranchal, Jammu and Delhi.

Local Transport

Most of Haryana's inhabitants use their private vehicle to commute inside the cities. Rickshaw, bus and auto-rickshaws are the prime modes of public vehicle here.
