Padum
With a population of 1500, Padum is the most populous city of the Zanskar valley. It is the administrative headquarters of the Zanskar region and also a base from where adventure tourists kick off their trekking expeditions to unfurl the magic of the region. These trekking expedition, apart from laying bare the beauty of the place also take you to ancient Buddhist monasteries.

Monastery : The Zangla monastery lies at a distance of 35 km
from Padum and can be reached both by a jeep or on a horseback.
- Karsha Monastery : Most significant monastery of the Zanskar region, Karsha gompa is mere 17 km from Padum. The Du-khang or the assembly hall of the monastery has recently been renovated and is worth visitng. The Gonkhang, or the temple dedicated to the Buddhist guardian deity, of the gompa is extremely impressive. Karsha can be reached both on foot or on a jeep from Padum.

By Air - Srinagar Airport is 463 km and Leh
Airport is 465 km away from Padum.
By Road - From both these places you can reach Padum via Kargil. From Padum, jeeps and horses are available to take you Tonde. Alternatively, you can also reach there after four to five hours hiking tour.
