When Hieun Tsang came here during the course of his travel, he found a stupa that was constructed by Emperor Ashoka. Today, you will not find the stupa, however, what you will find are a number of caves and rock shelters. Most of these caves and rock shelters are found in the north side of the hill which is both steeper as well as rockier.
Prominent amongst all these caves is the Sitas Window. This cave is not just largest of all the caves but is also believed to be the one where the Buddha resided during His stay. From atop the hill, you can get some mindblowing views of the Prabhosa town and Yamuna river.
Other Attractions
During the later times, Prabhosa became the central point of Jainism. Infact, till date, it is considered one of the most important places for the Jain community. In earlier times, a Jain Temple was constructed atop the hill. This temple was destroyed and again built in 1824 AD. Apart from this, there is a cave dating back to period prior to Gupta reign. This is the place where the sixth teerthankara of Jains, Bhagwan Padma Prabhu spent a major portion of his life.
